Where we are

Health

Health is a basic need of Humanity. people are dying of preventable diseases like diarrhoea, pneumonia and malaria, and typhoid. HIV/AIDs has arrived in the valley as well and is affecting many people with many deaths. Many mothers die of complications related to pregnancy and child birth. MRDC has funded an aid post but other services such s a birth centre and HIV AIDs counselling is also needed.

Education

The kids could do better but lack of schools is a problem. The illiteracy rates are high and only a few get educated as only one primary school which is poorly staffed is in the valley. The school needs its teachers to be disciplined and made to teach. Further elementary schools are also needed.

Law & Order

The last tribal fight was 5 years ago. Thank God there has been none since. But these are destroying lives. We need an end to tribal fighting.

Tribal fighting is destroying the valley.

Public awareness/Witchcraft

Due to the lack of services and socio economic activity, Witchcraft, sorcery and magic are now rife in the valley. People are uneducated about germ theory and disease processes and any deaths is attributed to sorcery, witchcraft and sorcery. This has had numerous effects in the valley. Ladies have been belted, burned alive, and some even thrown out of villages to suffer in the wild. Something needs to be done.

Witchcraft and sorcery on the rise due to the vacuum that exists

Environment & Climate Change

The virgin rain forest and huge native trees are disappearing. Climate change is one cause but huge population increase has meant that people cut down more trees for housing and firewood. An awareness needs to be done and also trees need to be planted. Gum trees grow fast and also grow very well.

Gum trees can grow well in the valley

Economic Activities

There is a lack of economies activity. There are no minerals and coffee or tea do not grow well. Vegetable grow but people need proper markets and teaching of farming methods. Gum tree logs and be a good source of income and also Goat farming. Due to the numerous small creeks, trout farming is also possible but again, people need the support.
